Breathe In, Breathe Out: We are Okay by Nina LaCour

Reviewed by Tyger, gr. 12, Feb. 2017

This book is a deeply realistic and emotional portrayal of a lonely emotional journey. After the first two pages, I was hooked. I resonate strongly with the protagonist with her acts of isolation, overthinking, over planning (making lists).

The story encourages me to reconnect with all the souls from whom I have drifted. It sets up an intimate everyday life of a quiet girl in her head: girl with a smile that shows more welcome than regret, a smile with meaning behind it, a somewhat convincing smile. Solitude is a state she must learn to appreciate.  The theme is about searching for your identity.

“Raw and beautiful, this portrait of a girl searching for both herself and a sense of home will resonate with readers of LGBTQ romances, particularly those with bisexual themes, and the poignant and affecting exploration of grief and betrayal will enchant fans of character-driven fiction.”

Wildly moving and emotional intense, I highly recommend this stimulating exploration of grief and power of loneliness.
