I enjoyed The Giver because it showed how easily any society can be hurt or even destroyed.
The book focuses on Jonas, who after becoming a 12 (coming-of-age ceremony for children turning 12) is chosen to become the village’s new Receiver.
Throughout the story, I could see how broken Jonas’ world is, and
how hard a society must work to heal itself, even by doing unthinkable things.
I
would recommend this book to any grade 11 or 12 students who want to explore how delicate a society is and how powerful a single person's actions can be.
