I enjoyed reading Into Thin Air because it beautifully describes the setting of Mount Everest and it gives a breathtaking insight into a heartbreaking real life tragedy that happened in May 1996.
The author himself was a part of the expedition lead by a famous, well-known climber, Rob Hall. At the time, Krakauer was a journalist for the adventure magazine Outside. His intentions to climb Everest were professional; however being introduced to this opportunity, he decided to follow his childhood dream of reaching the top of the world. Krakauer describes in detail his adventure and journey while climbing Everest. He is put in a team of several members -- but not all of them make it back alive.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to explore the story of Jon Krakauer and his climbing experience in Everest.
