The Great Gatsby is a well-known classic novel that depicts the hidden corruption behind the elite’s extravagant lifestyle during the 1920s.

The story focuses on the life of Jay Gatsby and his pursuit of Daisy Buchanan. The themes of wealth, love and happiness are demonstrated as the plot gradually escalates into chaos. Through the perspective of Nick Carraway, the reader is introduced to Jay Gatsby, an extremely rich gentleman whose background is rather vague and mysterious. Although Gatsby is famous for throwing a flamboyant party every weekend, nobody actually knows the truth behind his affluence.

The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite books. I found the author’s writing style to be unique, and the various themes, thought-provoking. This book will likely most appeal to students in grade 10 to 12 since the writing style and themes are complex.
